Title: Finding a Family
Fandom: The Faculty
Characters/Pairing: Zeke Tyler, Mrs. Connor
Wordcount: 500
Rating: PG13
Challenge: #91 - guest
„These are horrible news.“ Mrs. Connor looked shocked. „Half of the roof gone? What will you do now?“
Zeke shrugged. „It's not that bad. My dad already talked with the insurance; they will cover most of the damage. And I can stay at a motel for some weeks until the work is done.“
„A motel? You know, you are always a welcome guest in our house.“
„Thanks.“ Feeling uncomfortable Zeke turned away. „But I don't think that this is a good idea. With graduation in only two months, Casey won't be pleased to share his room.“
„I am sure Casey would share his room with you anytime.“ Mrs. Connor smiled. „But I was talking about the old couch in my utility room. It's not that I don't trust you, but I guess we shouldn't overstep the lines too much.“
„I would always respect your rules,“ Zeke murmured.
„You are a good boy,“ Mrs. Connor agreed,“ and I am happy that you and Casey are... so close to each other.“
Shocked, he needed a moment to let her words sink in. „You... Casey told you?“
She shook her head. „No. He desperately tried to keep it secret from us though he should have known better.“
Zeke licked his dry lips. „It wasn't his fault,“ he admitted.“I asked him not to talk about it. I guess I was afraid that it would ruin everything. Not to see him again... would be hard.“
Mrs. Connor nodded, smiling. „It's okay, Zeke. We don't blame you. But I am glad that it's out now." She stepped closer, pulling the surprised boy into a warm hug. „Welcome to the Connor family.“
He stiffened, barely dared to breathe. Not sure what to say. „Ähm… thanks,“ he finally croaked.
„Sorry.“ Laughing, Mrs. Connor let him go. „I guess, Casey has already warned you that sometimes I turn into an emotional mother hen? So, maybe you should better go back home now, to put some stuff together. Meanwhile, Casey can help me to make the utility room a bit more comfortable.“
„No need to make such a fuss,“ Zeke tried to protest, but she shook her head. „You are our guest, Zeke, that's the least we can do. Do you like green beans, by the way? We will have a green-bean-casserole for dinner later, but if you don't like them...“
„Green beans are okay,“ Zeke interrupted her while searching for his car keys. „Will be back soon.“ When he dropped down onto the driver's seat of his beloved GTO, he needed to close his eyes for a moment, to calm down again.
Welcome to the Connor family.
He had never been a family guy; his parents had left him alone when he had been much too young, and he had learned to live on his own. Had never thought that this would ever change. Until now. And it felt good.
