Title: Concerto of Witches
Listening to the flawless harmony of their voices, Alto knew that they were ready for the ceremony. He listened in awe, almost too distracted to actually conduct them: each singer's piece integrating seamlessly into the whole with precise timing, their slightly different but hauntingly beautiful and majestic voices exactly complementing each other in scale. It was how he would imagine an angelic choir to be if he hadn't already had run-ins with real angels and heard how terrifyingly, mechanically efficient their alien tones were as they cold-heartedly used their song-magic as an indiscriminate weapon. In his opinion, the witches were superior in their ability to express emotion. Listening to the angels, he wasn't even sure how much free will they actually had, or if there was a hive queen controlling them or something. By contrast, the witches still had their conflicting personalities that they'd had to train hard to overcome in order to act in unison like this. Through the psychic tuning rituals, Alto had been able to help them work on some of the deep-seated psychological instabilities that their traumas had caused them, solving issues that had made compatibility impossible. This just left ordinary but still grueling band practice.
