My hat in hand
Alone I stand
In the light upon the stage
Show once begun
Now is all done
And there is no other page

While smiling now
I take my bow
The applause I do accept
I tread the boards
Just like a lord
Glad that the crowd has not slept

Finale's here
The curtain dear
Before me at last is drawn
There will be more
But not before
Something's written to act on

The playwright
By day and night
To paper will put the pen
And one fine day
Another play
Will be writ; we'll start again
