Buffy stood at the edge of Sunnydale’s crater, smoke and dust slowly curling upward. The world was saved, but once again she’d paid the ultimate price, losing her champion in the final battle.
“You saved the world,” she whispered.
Spike’s ghostly form appeared beside her, smirking. “And burned to a crisp in the process. Not the kind of output I’d hoped for.”
Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears. “I failed you.”
“No, Buffy. You didn’t. And I’d do it all again.”
She reached out, fingers brushing through the smoky air as his form vanished from her dream. “I miss you.”
