I used to think shadows were where monsters lived.
It was a principle that I was taught early on, along with the claim that a Slayer fights alone.
When the porch light flickers, casting dark shapes across the yard, I realize light and shadows are connected; one wouldn’t exist without the other.
I was chosen to be the light who vanquishes the shadows, but I am stronger when Spike, a creature of the shadows, fights beside me.
We’re light and shadow, like yin and yang, coming together as one to vanquish evil.
A principle the Council failed to teach me.

YES! You cannot have one without the other. <3 I always had a hard time with Buffy's black-and-white thinking, even though I know it's part of what made her a flawed, richer character.
