Spike turned the ignition of his DeSoto with a growl.
The Gem of Amara was gone, shattered by his self-righteous grandsire. He’d cursed Angel’s name until his throat was raw, but now, as he drove into the daylight, he felt something akin to relief.
The invulnerability had been a rush, but it had also taken the bite out of the fight. What was the point of a tussle without the thrill of defying death?
He grinned. Soon, he’d remind Buffy what a real challenge looked like, the way it was meant to be: his fists and fangs against her stake.
