The Bayou Bacchanal roared in the night when Spike—drunk on alcohol and blood—stumbled into the fortune teller’s shop; a small parlor cluttered with candles, bones, mystical symbols, and talismans.
“What do you want, vampire?”
Spike sat at the tiny table, tossing a bunch of crumpled bills on it. “A reading. Tell me what lies ahead.”
“You’re not ready to know.”
“I don’t bloody care. I’m a paying customer.”
Silently, the teller gathered the bills and emptied a satchel in her hand.
“Chicken bones?”
“Silence, vampire!”
Bones tossed, future told.
Ready or not, his DeSoto sped toward the Valley of Sun.
