Title: Between Two Lasses
Fandom: X-Men
Characters/Pairings: Sean/Emma, Sean/Moira
Word Count: 500
Rating: PG-13/T
Summary: He knows she's watching.

He knows she's up there, above them all. He can feel her cool gaze sliding over his skin, even though he's dressed. She's always had that way about her, from those first nights they worked together against to save the kids from the Phalanx and the battles before then even. He knows her control and manipulation of his gender is just one of her many, many skills, and he knows she wields it expertly.

Perhaps that was one of the reasons why they always clashed back in the days of schooling Generation X. They had rarely seen eye to eye, but they had found ways to work together and around their differences. And the Mind Witch had never once stopped playing with his mind, taking peeks when he did not intend to allow her entrance into his private most thoughts and memories, and manipulating his emotions. He'd almost gone to bed with her far more times than he cared to remember, even knowing she wasn't good for him or --

Nae, he won't cut her down that much. She has always put the children's welfare above everything else, including her own desires and safety. She would've died for those kids, and she'd given a part of herself that no one could restore in killing her own sister because of what she'd done to poor Ev. Sean's glad to see the boy so strong in both body and character these days, but he hasn't forgotten his first death or how it wounded them all so deeply. He'd never seen her cry like that, not even over her own Hellions. Perhaps because she'd loved Gen. X in a way she never had her first kids.

She's become a good woman -- a Hell of a mentor, teacher, and fighter for their shared cause, Xavier's Dream --, and he's proud of her. He's far more proud of the woman she's become than of the man he is. For so many years, he's blamed himself for being a bloody fool for falling for her manipulations, and he knows she manipulated him. But had she really manipulated him all that much more than any other woman working closely with a man she admired? She'd always been clear with her admiration.

But he always also belonged to another. He'd always striven to be a man of his word for without a man's word, he's nothing. No amount of good works can amount to anything more than blarney if a man fails to keep his word. He'd been angry at her for so long because of that, because she'd tempted him every night they'd been close together to break his promises to speak vows to another. To a beautiful lass just as good in her own way and just as strong.

Only she hadn't been. The Moira he'd promised himself to had never really existed. He knows that now. He's heard how she ripped his flesh from his bones. He's glad he doesn't remember, but the heartache, he does vividly.
