Title: Citrussy
Fandom: FAKE
Characters/Pairings: Dee, Ryo, JJ.
Word Count: 400
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Dee and Ryo both like citrus scents.
Despite their outward differences, Dee and Ryo did have a few things in common besides being police detectives. They had similar tastes in music, both loved classic American cars, and they enjoyed good food. Ryo was a better cook overall, although Dee made killer pancakes and was king of the barbecue, and they both had a thing for citrus fruits, especially anything flavoured with lemon.
Ryo had a whole section in his collection of favorite recipes dedicated to all things lemon: lemon chicken, lemon buns, lemon meringue pie, lemon cheesecake, lemon sponge, lemon drizzle cake… Dee had even experimented with lemon body wash to see what effect that would have on his lover. He wasn’t disappointed by the results; nowadays on date nights, when he showered, he reached for the special bottle of lemon and ginger body wash, making himself smell tantalising to his partner’s keen nose.
He'd tried to find lemon-scented lube, but it turned out the closest he could get was orange, not what he was after but still citrus, so it was good enough, at least it was to start with. But then JJ had innocently asked Ryo about the new orange-scented soap he was using, and the next thing Dee knew, Ryo had moved right away from citrussy lubes and bought strawberry instead.
Not that Dee had complained about the change, strawberry was good too, they both liked strawberries, but did Ryo really think it would make much difference? How long would it be before JJ started asking about the strawberry ‘soap’?
“We shouldn’t have to switch lube just because JJ noticed the scent,” Dee pointed out one night when the bottle was almost empty. “It’s gonna keep happenin’ no matter what scent we use, unless you wanna go completely scentless, which we could, I guess, but that’s not as much fun.”
“It’s just off-putting having him mention it, especially in front of other people. No matter how thoroughly I wash, the scent lingers, and if JJ can smell it, everyone else can too.”
“So lean into it, use the lube we both like, but use citrus scented body wash, hand soap, shampoo, the whole deal. That way, if JJ starts askin’ about the soap brand, you can tell him. Maybe he’ll start usin’ it too, and then no one’s gonna think twice if you smell of oranges.”
Ryo smiled. “I guess it’s worth a try.”
