Brandir said again, “Níniel, I urge you to wait.”
“You bade me wait, and I have waited.” Níniel laughed with almost frenzied gaiety. “Has there not been enough of waiting?”
Brandir looked at her pleadingly. “My heart misgives me when I think of this marriage. I feel that some dark fate is drawing closer to you, to us all.”
“And do I!” Níniel cried out. “I came here out of darkness, nameless and knowledgeless as a newborn babe. But now I feel as if something from that darkness pursues me. That I must seize happiness now, or not at all.”
