Summary: Maybe Salem's finally struck it big with this one.

"You have no idea how lucky you are," Salem said, staring at the newest member of the Spellman household. Tongues were wagging yet again because of his niece. He'd once thought he might be able to take the girl on as his protégé, but of course, things had not turned out as he'd wanted. They hardly ever did, now that he was a cat and stuck again, even longer this time, in his feline cell.

He stuck out his own tongue as he thought of Drell, but then the baby cooed and Salem rolled to an alert, sitting position. "You can say that again, kid. The Council stinks, but you've got good parents. The boy's not all bad. Especially for a mortal."

"Gee, thanks. I think."

Salem's furry head lifted higher into the air, his nose sniffing. "Is that bacon I smell? And eggs?"

"We'll have to do the eggs later," Harvey said, unable to keep the grin from his face, "after Sab's gone to work, but I did manage to pilfer you some bacon."

Salem didn't even care that Harvey tossed the food onto the floor in front of him. He pounced instantly, grabbing a slice of freshly zapped bacon in his front paws. It was still hot, warming his paws and making his stomach growl. "You're a good man, Harvey Kinkle."

"For a mortal?" Harvey asked, scratching Salem between the ears.

Salem's tail swished as he agreed, between bites, "For a mortal." He finished his bacon and then prowled to where Harvey still stood with his baby, having freshly changed her. "Believe me," he exclaimed, winding around the human's ankles, "I wish I could make you a Warlock!"

"No thanks!" Harvey replied quickly. "I've seen the kind of trouble you Witches get into!"

"Harvey, I've gotta go!"

"Coming, honey!"

"But we could rule the world instead of the roost!"

"No thanks!"

Harvey returned, moments later, to lay his daughter back down into her crib. Salem waited until he was certain Harvey was on the couch and Sabrina was gone before hopping into the cradle and curling himself around the child. The baby gurgled happily and clapped her hands at him. He liked to pretend, sometimes, that she was singing his praises as the mighty Warlock he had been born as, but today, it seemed painfully obvious that she was gurgling just as joyously about his being a "good kitty".

He stared at her from solemn and unblinking, green eyes. "You have no idea how lucky you are, kid," he told her again, though he knew she didn't understand a word he said. "With that Spellman magic coursing through your veins, there's no limit to what you'll be able to do one day."

The baby gurgled, laughed, -- and pointed. Slices of bacon began to rain down into the crib. Salem pounced, scooping them up before they could touch the child, and started to purr between bites. "Who knows? Maybe I finally struck gold." Maybe this Spellman would listen!
