Buffy stopped unpacking the groceries when she heard Dawn’s request. “You want me to what?”
“Train me,” she repeated, rolling her eyes. “Teach me how to fight demons and stuff.”
“Are you out of your mind? No,” said Buffy, shifting her attention back to the groceries. “That’s my job.”
Dawn crossed her arms. “All your friends are doing it even though it’s not their job. And they were about my age when they started.”
“Dawnie, you’re not just my sister, you’re my ward and I must protect you. Besides, I have legal responsibilities, I can’t throw you into life-threatening situations.”
“Buffy, being your sister is a life-threatening situation. How many times did danger literally knock our door down?”
“And it’s my job to protect you.”
“Wouldn’t your job be easier if I knew how to protect myself?” asked Dawn. “I just want to learn how to fight back if I have to. It’s reasonable.”
Buffy sighed. “Boy, you’re stubborn.”
“Pot, kettle? Come on, I’m not made of crystal,” she grinned. “I’m made of green energy.”
“No, you’re flesh and blood.”
“Whatever. Will you teach me?”
“Fine. But you follow my lead, no complaints.”
Dawn hugged her. “I promise! Thank you.”
