As Spike regained consciousness, his nostrils filled with Buffy’s scent and he knew that he wasn’t waking up to torture and mind games.
That thing used to appear like her, but it had no smell and no warmth. Why had he not noticed before? Was he that desperate for Buffy to be truly there, that he’d fallen willingly for such blatant deception?
Warm, gentle hands were tending to the wounds on his abdomen. Opening his good eye, he saw a blurry image of Buffy; the basement light looked like a halo around her head.
An effulgent angel fallen from heaven.
