Buffy stepped into Giles’s bathroom, crossing her arms.
“Giles is warming a mug of blood. Are you ready to talk?”
Spike scoffed, making the chains clink while he shifted in the bathtub. “Good morning to you too, Slayer. So how was your trip to LA? Not too happy, I hope.”
“That’s none of your business, Spike.”
“Oh, I don’t give a sod about your tragic love life, trust me,” he said with disdain. “Just making sure that history ain’t repeating itself. I helped you get rid of Angelus once, but that’s it. You unleash him again, you’re on your own.”
Buffy’s expression turned to stone. “I’m always on my own,” she hissed.
Spike smirked. “Right. One girl in all the world, standing alone against the forces of darkness. Bloody inconvenient, innit?”
“I don’t need your sympathy, Spike.”
“It’s pity, not sympathy,” he spat, giving her a look of contempt. “Not that you’re honoring the ‘alone’ part of your deal, anyway. You’ve always got your sodding Scoobies watching your back. And your Watcher. And your axe-wielding mother. Bloody unfair, if you ask me.”
Buffy shrugged. “I’m not asking you. Now, stop prattling and tell me what you know about those commandos.”
