"Does an artificial being such as a doll have the capacity to feel love?"
The young girl looked up at the beautiful animated doll who stared at her, unblinking, patiently awaiting a response. Zeit, irritated at his marathon petting session being interrupted, whined and nuzzled her hand.
"Huh, well, I think my situation's a little different from yours."
"Because I am a newly crafted Rosenberg doll and you are an alchemical vessel from thousands of years ago?"
"Well, that too, I guess, but I meant more that..." she frowned and looked down at a whimpering Zeit, "I can do things to probability and to people's heads to make them love me, but you're just super pretty and graceful and..."
Zeit barked, one harsh, commanding woof, then furiously licked KeA's face.
"I think he is trying to tell you that you're also super pretty and way cuter than me! And he knows the real reason why people like you so much," said Lapis, "Its nothing to do with alchemical power. Your friends are stronger than that. They see you as their real child. Zeit says that we are one big pack."
"Really?"
Lapis nodded solemnly, "As a doll, I am knowledgeable about children, as my main function is to comfort and be a companion for them. Even a beautiful, rare, valuable antique knows that!"
KeA laughed, "I bet you sometimes wish you were a regular old dolly so that children will play with you!"
"I... um... maybe?" Lapis stuttered, prompting a fresh burst of laughter. She'd never before seen the proud doll so uncomposed, except when Nadia teased her!
"Anyway, you made me feel better, so you've done your job," KeA beamed, "But... um... could you show me where you get your clothes and how do your hair up that pretty?"
