Summary: He has a duty as the Director of the facility, as the heir to the Guardia royal line, and possibly as the last person alive out there.
The blast sent tremors through the underground bunker, shorting out the lights. When the emergency generators activated and the lights snapped back on, so did a slew of red-alert hazard warnings and critical error messages. The integrity of the Arris Dome's shielding was compromised. They'd lost contact with most of the other shelter domes. Even if they evacuated now, there was no guarantee they'd reach a safer place, or even if such a thing existed, anywhere in the whole damn world.
Soon there might not even be a world to go to.
He returned to his keyboard, typing furiously, yelling out commands to the Supervisor and Operator. They had a duty as possibly the last humans alive, as well as the administrative staff of Guardia's national Communications Centre. He felt a personal duty, too, as an heir to the royal family, even though the Government had long since moved past simply being a monarchy. This had been his designated service, a tradition of the Guardia royal line, one that they had always taken very seriously. Now that he was possibly recording humanity's last words, it was something more urgent still.
Not that there would be anyone to warn.
Would there?
