Acting as Kagome's caregiver was a necessary evil. He needed her ability to sense the Shikon no Tama; and she needed someone to protect her. Inuyasha always expected that, once their task was ended, they'd simply part ways. Kagome would be out of his hair, and he'd get on with his life.
But, so quickly, Kagome has become more to him than a mere means to an end. Inuyasha hates to admit it, even to himself, but he looks forward to seeing Kagome anytime she comes back.
