While wandering through the forest of 1000 AD at night, Crono was attacked by a Nu with a broom.
Usually it was a mop. The Nu liked places to hide, like forests, so they could travel to and from their maintenance jobs without bothering or being bothered by anyone.
Nobody needed to see the janitors beyond time and space clean the world's innards.
They'd been the Three Sages' greatest collaboration, a project hidden from Queen Zeal as soon as her behaviour became sinister.
If the end of the world was nigh, something needed to have the power to repair it.
