Summary: He's come for her, as always.

She was cold, but it wasn't a cold that touched her bones or her flesh. It was far deeper within her, a coldness to which she could not put a name or define and which she feared no other might understand, no other save one, the one who had finally come to her, finally reached her through all the perils blocking them both this time. Belle was so very, very tired too. She only wanted to feel her husband's arms around her and to fly from this world, but, no matter how either of them hated the idea, they were very much stuck here.

Sure, the place had its promises, like its limited magic, but it seemed no less stressful, and the people around them no less prone to hurt them, than back in the Enchanted Forest. At least, back then, she and Rumpel had had his entire castle to themselves. They had known some kind of peace, and more, much, much more. Though his castle had at first seemed dank and foreboding, she had managed to bring light to it, and had even managed to get him to agree to allow her to do so. What was more, though she'd never spoken the words aloud back then, there had been a darkness in her heart that had not been removed since her mother's death, a darkness that he had at least assuaged. He had, in his own way, brought as much light to her life and light as she had to that old castle.

Yet she was so weary now that it seemed no light could reach them in this modern forest. Yet as he swept her into his strong and reassuring arms, and she laid her weary head upon his shoulder without even a kiss, the sun, at long last, broke through the icy branches. He had almost swept his cloak around her the moment reached her, before lifting her, and now at last, nestled against his chest and the faint rhythm of his heartbeat, Belle smiled, though still tremulously.

"You came," she whispered. They had been fighting again when she had left, and she'd not been at all certain he would come. Yet here he was again, always playing the duel parts of both the one who could hurt her more than any other and her hero, forever her rescuer.

"Of course, dearie," he whispered, and she could feel his expression change with his tone and the subtle shift of his body around hers. "Of course, beloved, as cliche as it sounds, the Charmings are onto something with their True Love." Her lips twisted with mirth at the way he made those two words sound, but then she smiled, peacefully and reassured, as his lips pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead. "I will always come for you, Belle. I will always love you."

Her eyes were still closed as he kissed her lips as softly, as though he might harm her further. "Let's go home, Rumpel."
