The chanting did not contain words. Language hadn't been invented yet even among Pogo's own tribe, and Kuu's people were known for caring less about coming up with new ideas, more about perfecting what they did best - fighting and dark rituals.
Still, crude syllables could be heard forming among the feral grunts and roars of raw emotion. Pogo thought he recognised those simple but powerful sounds from somewhere. The sensation chilled him to the bone, a primal fear of being hunted, eaten.
"O-D-O!" they roared, "O-D-O!"
Something deep inside the pit roared in return, vast and loud and rumbling.
