Summary: Anything Drabble 262: Fade
The magic was fading, Cinderella thought gloomily. She dropped the curtain, allowing the veil to close back down between her castle and the outside world, the outside world that she had once considered to still be her kingdom before so much of the nation beyond had taken over. The magic was fading, and there was very little she could do about it.
She walked over and into her husband's awaiting embrace. Charming wrapped his arms around her, and for a moment, Cindy just stood in his loving arms. She could have stayed there all day and well into the night, honestly until it was time for them to retire to their private chambers, but she knew she had duties. Marrying him had come with duties, rather she liked it or not and rather, for that matter, if he liked it or not. They had not left his kingdom when they had wed. He had stepped into his father's shoes instead, and they would do what must be done.
She lifted her head from his shoulder and looked into his eyes. They shone with gratitude, and she knew why. Despite everything they had faced, she had always found a way out for them. Since he had freed her from her stepmother, she had guided them through everything else. She would guide them through this as well somehow, some way.
Love will find a way. She remembered those words well, although she was uncertain if they'd been from a song or poem. Regardless, even in this day and time, they still held true. Love would find a way. She would find a way; she had to. Gathering her strength, she kissed her husband and moved out of his arms. She knew he would have held her all day if she had allowed it, his arms proving a strong, unspoken, and nearly unbreakable shield, but there were others who loved and others who needed their help.
She moved forward to face the gathered crowd, thankful that at least in the privacy of her real castle, now hidden by Disney Imagineers to all those visitors, they were all actually her own people. There were no children holding guns here or adults looking to kill, or worse, their spouses or children. These were all her people.
They all started speaking at once. It was not remiss on the Queen that even the villains were beginning to look tired and scared. They all believed their own world, everything they had believed in before, to be fading away, and although the magic was fading, as long as they remained, love remained, and as long as there was love, there was hope. Cinderella held up a hand, and they all hushed. One by one, she began to call them forward and deal with their problems. Somehow, some way, she would make certain everyone left this day with a feeling of hope restored, just as her own hope was restored every time she stepped into her husband's arms.
