Title: Grieving Fashionista
Fandom: California Dreams
Characters/Pairings: past Jake/Lorena, current OMC/Lorena
Word Count: 500
Rating: PG/K+
Summary: Lorena knows how to get over a man. Even Jake Somers.

Lorena squealed as she felt the cloth. It was rich and luxuriant, everything she was, everything she deserved, everything Jake was not and would never have been able to buy her. She bounced up and down with excitement at all the new dresses and hugged her new boyfriend.

He was cute enough, but he was no Jake Somers. He was no rebel, and he couldn't carry a tune even when singing along in the car. But he was a distraction. He was a distraction from all the heartache and pain Jake had caused her, and even what had followed when she'd eventually had to tell the Dreams they had to stop recording at her studio. It hadn't been fair, seeing him day after day, night after night, and knowing that he was with her, little Miss Do-No-Wrong Sunshine-All-The-Time Tiffani.

They were both poor, her mother had tried to tell her. They deserved each other. Lorena didn't need to slum. She had actually brought... Oh, what was this guy's name? Stefan, Stephen, something of that nature? But she'd hooked her up with him, and he had a whole fortune of daddy's money that he was more than happy to spend.

She had a brand new wardrobe within a week of dating him, and he was still taking her on shopping excursions. She was once again wearing the latest fashions and was the toast of the elite teenagers across all of southern Cali. She was even hobnobbing with the stars again on the weekends. She had no reason to think about Jake and very little time to do so in.

Yet he still crossed her mind. Even as her boyfriend's strong arms were around her, she couldn't help reflecting that his had been stronger. Her boyfriend smelled of Calvin Klein; she actually missed Jake's stronger scents of leather and motor oil. Her boyfriend liked to make out, but he was a feeble kisser. Jake had been so experienced he'd even taught her a thing or two.

She could talk to... was it Stefan? about anything fashion related, and he actually understood society. Yet she missed the way Jake had simply let her babble for hours sometimes, although being completely oblivious to what she was actually saying. He'd never cared what she was saying, it seemed, only that she was passionate about it. Unless she'd been sad. Lorena doubted Stefan could shove anybody's head in a locker. She missed that feeling of protection she'd always had with Jake, until he'd crushed her heart far worse than anybody else had ever been able to.

She missed Jake, period. Lorena hid her sorrow with another kiss and another addition to her closet. She'd never admit she still loved him, and she'd certainly never admit to fearing she would always miss him. The world was full of Stefans. Lorena knew how to use every one of them. Tossing her beautiful head proudly, she determined she would never be hurt by a man, or another friend, again.
