„Geez! Put down the flashlight. Are you trying to blind me?“
„Sorry!“
Casey turned the lamp to the ground and Zeke could see his hand trembling. Holy shit, this guy was a geek through and through.
„I didn't think that anyone else is still awake.“
„What the heck are you actually doing here? It's past midnight; good boys should sleep in their bed.“
Only then his eyes fall on the backpack beside Casey; surprised he pulled the face.
„Oh. Get it.“
Resigned Casey shrugged.
„You don't get anything at all. Everyone around respects you, though you act like a selfish prick often enough.
I'm just a freak who has tried to save the world. But no one believes me. My parents sent me here, to a fucking boarding school, because they are sure I've lost my mind; they are ashamed of me.
When I have to stay here only one day more, then maybe it will happen, that I'm running mad.“
Zeke wasn't quite sure what to think about all this, he had heard rumors, yes, and he hadn't given much about it. Much too weird. But there was a sad undertone in Casey's voice which arouse the urge to pull him into his arms and to keep him safe from everything, everyone who was tormenting him.
„Any plans where you want to go?“
In the dim shine of the flashlight, he noticed the mistrust on Casey's face.
„None of your business.“
„Just an idea. When you need a place to stay for a while, my parents own a cabin in the Sawtooth Forest, they don't use anymore.“
Usually, he didn't care much about other people's problems, but when Casey's unique blue eyes sparkled surprised, he knew that this was the only right thing this time.
