Summary: Dawn wakes to what may turn out to be an actual good morning despite their losses.
Dawn slowly stirs to sizzling sounds. Fear ices its way into her veins. She's already lost Buffy. Could Spike have somehow been caught by the daylight? He's been taking unnecessary risks, even though they've both promised the other they won't do anything stupid. She's not as naive as some people, including her new best friend, think. She knows she's become as important to Spike's existence as he is to hers. They're literally all the other has now. It's not remiss on her that even though her sister's friends claim to also be hers they haven't been here nearly as much for her as he has been; there are whole days when she doesn't even hear from them.
She's fighting to wake, fighting to free herself from the remaining strains of watching her beloved sister fall to her death yet again to save her far inferior life, when she hears odd popping noises. There's a plopping, like something solid falling into something liquid, and then... Is that humming? Her eyes finally open, and Dawn sits up. The room spins for a moment, but then she catches sight of Spike. He's not on fire (thank God!), but what is he doing?
She rubs the sleep from her eyes and peers closer. Her mouth opens wordlessly, and her tummy rumbles loudly, speaking for her. Spike is cooking! The man truly is a master of many talents! She bounces from the bed he insists she take each night as he sleeps in the solitary chair and rushes over. There's freshly fried bacon and sausage, and now he's working on the eggs!
He laughs as she starts grabbing handfuls of food and thrusting meat into her mouth. "It's about time someone enjoyed my cooking skills!" She can only stare; she's never such a talented man!
