Title: And Gabriel Makes Ten
"And that," he declared, "Makes ten."
Looking over his creations in their entirety, he felt a swell of almost fatherly pride. His actual daughter, of course, remained the centre of the Universe. Still, these genetically perfect beings, these pinnacles of heraldic technology, cybernetics, AI and weaponry, were about to govern the galaxy and they had been forged by his own hands.
He hoped that the extra function in the tenth wouldn't be a problem. Ideally it would remain secret. It had been necessary in a way that the politicians were unlikely to understand or agree with. The Ten would almost certainly have difficulty obeying orders. Supreme arrogance had been a necessary part of their programmed personalities if they were going to independently keep entire solar systems under control. So far, they only really listened to him.
Which meant he had to remain at the centre of it all.
Professor Lantis had other reasons for wanting the option to upload his consciousness into the Tenth. He was old. He wouldn't live forever. Someone needed to look after Philia. Maybe it would even be necessary to... no, he shook his head, Philia wouldn't want that.
He would never go against her wishes.
