Over by the stove, Mike hummed to himself as he tried to remember the recipe to an apple pie he remembered his mother making back in Texas. Micky sprawled on the couch, snoring, worn out from playing with the kids who'd been at the market, pretending to be under attack from falling leaves. Peter and Davy, out on the patio, were arranging a bunch of small pumpkins they'd bought to decorate.
There was nothing quite like a fall day to bring out the joy in four hearts.
