Clara stared at the ground, dumbstruck. "You're kidding me, right?"
At her feet, clustering eagerly, were a bunch of tiny, gray-black things with large eyes. Somehow, they reminded her of the soot sprites out of some Japanese anime film she'd once seen.
The Doctor chuckled. "I'm afraid not. The Ziibzuhb implant on whatever's nearest to them when they spawn."
"And I'm their new 'mum'." She tried to back away without stepping on any Ziibzuhb that huddled behind her. "Doctor, I can't just babysit these things! I have a life!"
"Don't worry. They'll mature to adulthood in about seventeen hours."
