Title: Taken Pieces
Fandom: Criminal Minds
Characters/Pairings: Reid/Morgan
Word Count: 200
Rating: Mature, possible abusive relationships and mentions of alcohol.
Summary: Reasoning under bathroom lights and broken pieces.
Always, the morning came in tiny pieces like this: fall from bed, rise from the dead, stumble into the bathroom while feeding Clooney, half the while wallowing in the morning regret of imbibing far too much and catching slurred words said under piss-colored ceiling lights. Or, rather, Reid spoke, and Morgan sat in the confines of his mind, listening to lines said repeatedly.

"I didn't mean it." Reid softly murmured, stroking Morgan's bicep with gentleness. If Reid said he didn't mean it, he didn't—no matter what the self-preserving murmur in Morgan's head offered otherwise. For all his faults, he was never dishonest without reason. "Derek, I didn't."

He had a sharp tongue anyway; it was his greatest asset and his worst enemy. Concocting careful worlds, he could draw UnSubs into fantastical fantasies and glorious constructs. Then, Reid knew how to inflict damage, and angry, he chose the words to hurt people the most.

But Morgan came to terms long ago. It was an expected risk, of course, and it wasn't like Morgan wasn't a man.

He swallowed, throat dry, and nodded.

"Don't worry." He didn't look ahead, not at the bathroom mirror lest he see his lie. "I know."
