Three figures emerged from the cottage on the hill, none of them dogs. While two of them wandered off, hand in hand, whispering sweet nothings to each other while they tried to remember how to be human, the third one was ambushed by a wood sprite who thoroughly magically disinfected him of dog hair and fleas.
"I didn't have any fleas in the first place!" protested Nigel, swatting at Friday and waving away the glimmering lights in his eyes, "I was a dog for all of two hours!"
"Well, you've certainly managed to pick up the smell in that time!"
