They'd both been in more battles than they can remember, they've seen each other badly injured, pulled each other out of near-catastrophic screw-ups. He's never seen her show pain like this. She's stubborn as a Motavian trader, tough as sandworm hide, won't show weakness around anyone, even close comrades. She grits her teeth, growls in frustrated anger as much as she cries out in agony. She berates him for not getting help in time. He mutters an apology, averting his gaze from the black tendrils of malign energy crackling and spreading from the wound in her chest that won't heal.
