He was getting used to his new eye.
Having the damn thing installed had been pure burning agony. On reflection, it hadn't been any worse than some of the particularly nasty wounds he'd been dealt on the battlefield. The circumstances behind it were creepy, yes, but he'd seen plenty of bizarre and disturbing monsters in the lowest depths of dungeons he'd been raiding for treasure. Soon enough, the pain faded to a dull ache, then an irritating itch that he learned to ignore. It was weird to look into a mirror and see a giant, jet-black, diamond-hard, glistening compound eye fused into one side of his face but he'd never exactly been pretty. What's more, it was certainly impressive - people tended to let him do as he pleased out of fear, especially the ones who knew how he'd come about the eye and what it meant for them and the future of their entire pitiful world.
The things he could see... so many realms, dimensions that even the haughtiest scholar-mages hadn't heard of... such rainbow, fractal beauty... he could forgive the loss of half his mundane sight.
He didn't need to see things to kill them any more, anyway.
