"Looks like the bridge has been repaired," reported Alys, "We can get back home. About damn time!"
Chaz nodded, "Sure has been a long mission, hm?"
He glanced over at Rika and Hahn, who were happily discussing things that went straight over the Hunter's head, full of scientific terminology that the strange girl probably knew from her lifetime inside a laboratory being taught by a computer. The academy scholar looked happy to have someone to discuss these things with after so long traveling with two hired killers, a snarky mage and a grumpy desert-dwelling owl-person.
Gryz sat in a table in the far corner of the inn, drinking his coffee and not speaking to anyone or looking at them. Chaz understood - this whole thing was just bringing up even more painful memories for the survivor of Zio's assault. The bridge had been broken by the same army of fanatical cultists who had sacked his home village and slaughtered everyone except the few refugees who had escaped to Tonoe, among whom hadn't been Gryz's family. Meanwhile, the Palmans were complaining about a minor inconvenience.
This really was not a short trip to Piata.
Alys would no doubt demand double pay.
