Just once, the Doctor would like to have a run-in with somebody who's far fearsome than they believe themselves to be; some nobody with a chip on their shoulder, without being a front for some darker force.
But the universe doesn't seem to like making things easy. It seems, in fact, to feel that, as long as the Doctor is around to take care of things, the things that need taking care of might as well be monumental in scale. Perhaps it's better that way.
Just the same, it would be nice to have a break in the routine.
