Word Count: 500
Rating: PG-13/T
Summary: Rahne knows how to get through these nights. She did it before, and by the grace of God, she'll do it again.

She kneels atop a moonlit, grassy knoll, primal urges calling to her. She long ago became accustomed to dealing with the beast within, but these nights, it's harder. These nights, since losing her son, the mate with whom she thought she would raise not only a family but a kingdom, and even her beloved guardian mother, they are ever harder to ignore. But she knows, even as she sits struggling with silent tears raising down her forlorn face, that she can beat this. She can beat this, because she is not truly alone. She still has her Father.

There was a time when the church had made her turn against her faith. One Reverand in particular had convinced her God hated her, but Lady Moira taught her so much, including helping lead her back to the faith. Moira had never put much stock in God herself, but she had seen how religion helped Rahne, not unlike how belief in Science had helped her herself. But Lady Moira -- A shiver runs through Rahne as she feels the winds change direction. She bites her bottom lip to keep from answering a howl on the distant horizon.

Lady Moira is no more. There are many who believe the true Lady Moira never existed, but Rahne knows better. The Krakoan Resurrection protocols were broken. She had known the love of the true Lady Moira, and the woman who raised her could have never been the monster they had brought back and called her mum. For all of her belief in Science, Lady Moira had possessed one of the grandest and most loving hearts Rahne had ever known. There was no way she could have ever fought against mutants, and even if she had somehow been forced to turn against Rahne's species, she knew bloody well that Lady Moira would never have skinned her fiance.

That beast they had resurrected had been a monster, because neither man nor mutant were meant to play God. Only the All Mighty Father had the power to truly give life. Whatever they'd brought back had been a monster, a Demon far worse than any Kurt or Illyana had ever known. Rahne recognized it, but the other X-Men had not been ready to accept their own beliefs were broken. Storm and Kurt should have seen if no one else had. The Professor should have seen. But they were all too broken...

Her family is broken, her heart shattered, but Rahne knows it is not too late. Nothing is ever too late when one gives power and belief to the All Mighty Father of all. So with howls, beasts, and darkness tearing at her mind, urging her very soul to surrender, Rahne bows her head and begins, as she did as a small lass, to pray. She'll pray through the night right here on this hill, perhaps even into the daylight hours, but she will make it. She'll survive another night, and eventually, what is left of her family will too.
