371. Citrus - Supernatural - Cas, Sam, Dean - Lemon Power

Title: Lemon Power
Fandom: Supernatural
Characters/Pairings: Castiel, Sam, Dean
Word Count: 400
Rating: G/K
Summary: Humans puzzle Castiel.
Author's Note: And sometimes they puzzle other humans! Based on real events.

Sam could swear he could hear his friend's wings fluttering as Castiel frowned deeply. "Am I missing something, Samuel? I do not understand -- "

"Nope." Sam shook his head. "Some folks just can't be understood, Cas."

"Sure, they can be," Dean remarked, turning around from the counter with a pie in hand. Between bites, he said simply, "He was a lunatic."

"But -- " Castiel was still frowning. "What would convince a person that robbing a bank under such a guise is a good idea, no matter how desperate they were?"

Dean finished his miniature pie. In between licking lemon juice from his fingers, he punctuated, "Didn't say he was desperate, Cas. I said he was a lunatic."

"It still puzzles me," the Angel said, looking to Sam for help. "Is there any scientific proof -- "

Sam nodded. "Lemon juice can be used to make invisible ink, but that's invisible ink. It's not going to turn a person, or anything else for that matter, invisible."

"Lemons are good for one thing, Cas," Dean said, strolling away from the diner counter. He patted the Angel's shoulder as he kept moving. He'd had enough of the idiots of this town! Their pies were good, but even then, he'd had better.

"He robbed -- " Sam hadn't thought it was possible for Cas to frown even harder, but he was quickly being proved wrong. " -- not one but two banks with his only guise being citrus?"

"Old Wheeler was never known for his smarts," the gray-headed lady behind the counter remarked. She snorted rather undignifiedly. "Serves 'im right, you ask me. You gotta work hard for a decent wage in today's world."

"Idle hands," Castiel murmured, shaking his head. Slowly, he turned and trod after Dean. Humans were strange creatures indeed! Every time he thought he was close to understanding them, he encountered a stranger tale. Perhaps Dean was right, and the best thing they could do was leave this Pennsylvania town in a hurry.

Sam started to follow the other two but was stopped short by the diner employee barking at him, "HEY! YOU GONNA PAY FOR THAT PIE OR WHAT?!"

"DEAN!"

Dean kept strolling, licking juice from his fingers. When he wanted to grab something for free, he knew how, and it had nothing to do with invisible lemon juice! "You owe me, Sammy!" He grinned broadly.

Muttering underneath his breath, Sam obediently turned round to pay.
