323: Halo - BtVS - Spike/Buffy - Home Again
Title: Home Again
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Characters/Pairings: Spike/Buffy
Word Count: 400
Rating: PG-13/T
Summary: In which Spike goes home again.
WARNING: Character Death
He's bracing for the final blow when she's there suddenly. The dark of the night seems to swirl around her -- it's always fit her like a glove --, but her blonde hair shines like a halo. She'd tell him she's not an Angel; she'd remind him of all her downfalls. But he knows she is.
He also knows she isn't really here. Buffy's been gone a long time, and though he promised her he'd keep fighting, and he has, he's tired, so very tired. He's ready for the final blow. He's ready to go home in whatever waits in the beyond, to be with her again. He stopped kidding himself centuries ago. He knows he doesn't deserve Heaven, but wherever he wakes, wherever he goes next, she's going to be there. He doesn't entirely understand what that means. She doesn't deserve Hell, but he doesn't deserve Heaven.
Yet he'll have Heaven. When his eyes open again, when he is with her again, he will have his own Heaven right there, wherever he is, as long as she, his Angel, his beloved, his everything, is there. He doesn't close his eyes when the final blow comes. He smiles, his blue eyes shining brightly, which confuses the young Slayer, the Slayer who got lucky, the Slayer who, only a select few will understand, how she was able to kill William the Bloody.
He smiles as he turns to dust, spreading his arms wide. He almost feels like thanking the child, but his mouth is already gone, having exploded in one last smile in this mortal coil. His existence in his realm is finally over, and his Angel is waiting. He's happy. The ceaseless war is over for them. They'll be together again, and whatever awaits them, together, it will be Heaven. With her arms around him again, wherever they are, whatever awaits them in their next chapters, he will be home.
And when he does open his bright, blue eyes again, she is there, stroking his blonde hair, gazing fondly down at him as her own blonde tresses shine once more like a halo. "I told you to keep fighting," she chastises him gently, lovingly.
"I did," he snarls, "for a bloody two centuries without you! Do you know how bloody -- "
"I do." Her voice quiets him, soothes him nearly as much as her fingertips stroking his skin. They kiss, joyfully home again.
