After work, Fraser went to Ray’s apartment. He was carrying a bag full of apples for him and Killer the turtle. Some apples were Red Delicious and some were Granny Smith because while Fraser liked sweet apples, Killer liked sour ones
He walked into the apartment and Ray was dancing as he held Killer high in the air. Killer’s legs were wiggling and he was grunting happily, Fraser smiled, seeing Ray dance with his turtle was heart warming.
Ray turned and grinned when he saw Fraser.
‘Hey, whatcha you got there?’ Ray asked when he saw the bag of apples.
‘I brought some apples for Killer and I to eat.’
‘Greatness! Make yourself at home and I’ll go get you some tea,’ Ray said as he sat Killer on his couch and went into his kitchen.
Fraser sat down and Killer walked over and sat down on his lap. He rubbed Killer’s head and Killer grunted happily.
Ray came back and handed Fraser a cup of tea. He flopped down onto the couch with a beer in his hand.
‘May I ask you a question?’ Fraser asked as he sipped his tea.
‘Shoot.’
‘Did you name your turtle after Walter The Killer Kowalski?’ Fraser took a sip of tea.
‘Who’s that? A Mountie?’
‘Not as such. He was a Polish Canadian wrestler who my Grandmother had an affinity for.’
‘Really! That’s cool! I named my turtle Killer because I thought it was funny. So, your grandma liked wrestling huh?’
‘Oh, yes. She enjoyed a good wrestling match.’
‘Cool. My Grandma liked wrestling too. When I would going to her house we would watch Big Time Wrestling.’
‘That sounds delightful.’
He smiled as Ray talked about his Grandmother. It would seem that Martha Fraser and Lilly Kowalski were very similar.
