She was lying on the clearing, surrounded by fallen leaves. Gray clouds had chased away the last sunbeams, the air was chilly, but Beth didn't mind. She enjoyed this moment of silence; her mind drifted off. Back to the old times, when she had lain on the meadow behind her grandfather's farm together with Maggie. They loved to watch the various shapes of the clouds, cats, hearts or flowers; Maggie had insisted once on seeing their grandfather in his rocking chair.
Innocent phantasies of two little girls who didn't sense how their world would look like only a few years later.
