Summary: It's another new morning for our favorite Mounty and his partners.

"I believe someone's waiting for you, Constable Fraser."

Benton turned slowly to peer out the glass door of the little café that had become a routine part of his morning. Before he could move, Diefenbaker slipped away from him, raced out the door, and jumped into the coming car while it still moved. He tossed money at the cashier and hurried out the door, calling to the eager wolf. A blast of icy air almost blew at his hat, forcing him to clamp it down with his free hand as he scolded both Dief and the driver, "Ray, honestly, the least you could have done is stopped!"

"I did stop!" Ray threw his hands up into the air. "It's not my fault that your wolf has good taste!" He leaned back, grinning broadly.

Dief pranced in a circle in Ray's back seat before finally facing his partner. Even then, his bushy tail continued wagging excitedly, giving him away. Benton barely refrained from sighing aloud, but he could not stop the gawking glower that overtook his handsome features as Ray reached into his glovebox and pulled out a set of shades. "Really, Ray?" he questioned.

His human partner just shrugged. "If we're going to cruise, we might as well cruise in style." He had disliked the wolf very strongly when they had first met, but just like the mounty, he had grown on him more than the aging Detective would have ever thought possible at the beginning of their relationships.

Diefenbaker wagged even more as Ray slid the shades onto his muzzle and up his snout. "Show him how cool you are, boy," Ray said, grinning and knowing that he was getting on Benny's last nerve. He winked up at the frustrated mounty.

"Now look here, Diefenbaker, you know very well that is not a part of the normal Royal Canadian Mounted Police uniform, or our companions!"

"Yeah, but as I keep telling you, Benny, you're not in Canada anymore!"

Benton's frown deepened when Dief yipped as though to punctuate his agreement with Ray's words. "We still represent Her Majesty's Royal -- "

Dief yipped again.

" -- Canadian -- "

Dief yipped a third time and leaned out of the car to nudge his partner's hand.

Ray just shrugged. "Well, it does beat trying to catch them on foot, doesn't it?" he asked. Then eyeing the box of doughnuts Benny was carrying, he added, "Any of those for me?"

"They are for good, well behaved partners." Benton snatched the box away as Dief nudged its lid.

"We are good," Ray argued, "and we're all you've got. Now are you coming or not?"

"Very well," Fraser replied with a heavy sigh. "Vehicular travel does seem to increase effectiveness."

"And speed. And style." Ray grinned, donning his own shades.

Dief yipped in his ear, and for once, the Detective didn't even frown. "Now about those doughnuts -- " he started as they peeled away.

Benton hid his smile behind the opening lid.
