Summary: Tonight, he is free.
It was in these rare moments that he felt most alive. It was out here in the dangerous wilderness beyond the Goblin City in which a very natural part of him felt most alive. He circled the fire with his subjects, calling out words he had known his entire life yet never truly understood. He yelled. He screamed. He threw a couple of heads.
In the firelight, with the drums beating, he was not a King. He was neither Goblin nor man. He was just himself, just another dancer, just another who catered to the inner fire inside all beasts. Jareth screamed and let himself be free.
If the girls could see him now, they would all want him. They would forget instantly about their baby brothers and become his willing slaves. Why, if they could see him naked and virile like this, he would have as many human slaves as he had Goblins! But he had never wanted either. He had never asked for this role, this power, this life, or this curse. He had never asked for any of this; it had been his own foolish mother who had thrust him into this slavery!
But out here, under the full moon, around the fire, none of that mattered. For one night, he was free. He was not subjected to caring for others, let alone an entire kingdom of others who had no one else to whom to turn. He was not concerned with the future or impeded by the past. Only the present reigned. Only the moon was master.
Jareth tossed his regal, blonde head back and howled along with his subjects. He caught two Fieries' heads and tossed them for sport, then kicked away, a female, who'd danced too close to his groin. Tonight, he was free.
