Summary: When a heart breaks, it often heals as a block of stone

It was a painful little epilogue to a fine romance
The pain, along with the sense that she shouldn't take a chance
When a heart breaks, it often heals as a block of stone
And, lest it crack, best to leave that heart alone
Don't let love ever come once again so near
Just live in a dreadful hideaway of shadows and fear
The lesson has to be lived once it has been learned
Bearing the scars where once one was terribly burned
Just letting affection grow drowsy, weak, and faint
It's far, far better than being love's martyred saint
